Body and Appearance
1. Describe the character's height and build. Is he heavyset, thin, short, rangy?
Gulcasa is tall and muscular. At age 17 he was 5'8", and at the beginning of canon, he's a bit over six feet tall and still growing.

2. How old is he?
Twenty years old.

3. Describe his posture. Does he carry himself well or does he slouch?
Generally, Gulcasa has very good posture, which comes from his weapons training and how much time he's spent in armor over his life (armor's kind of uncomfortable to slouch in). He does tend to slump over his desk, but that has more to do with his dislike of paperwork than his habits.

4. How is his health? Is he fit or out of shape? Any illnesses or conditions? Any physical disabilities?
Ordinarily speaking, Gulcasa is quite physically fit and takes part in strenuous activity (lol battles) quite a lot--those muscles are not for show. Despite this, he occasionally falls desperately--even deathly--ill because of the side effects of using Brongaa's power and his own demon blood in general. He is still about half-human, and his human and demon sides reject each other.

5. How does he move? Is he clumsy, graceful, tense, fluid?
Gulcasa carries himself with pride and moves powerfully, like some great predatory animal.

6. How attractive is this character physically? How does he perceive himself in the mirror?
As his vast harem would attest, Gulcasa is quite attractive, with strong features and kind of a wild beauty. His face is just a little bit too harsh to be classically handsome, not that the harem cares about that at all. And he's remarkably sweet-faced when he's smiling happily. As for his own self-perception, Gulcasa doesn't care about his looks very much.

7. Describe his complexion. Dark, light, clear, scarred?
It doesn't stand out very much because of his hair, but his complexion is a bit sallow compared to some of the other members of the cast (even his own half-sister!). He's long past the age of acne, so his skin's also clear.

8. Describe his hair: color, texture, style.
Gulcasa's hair is brilliantly red and is about knee-length, aside from his bangs and the locks framing his face (which are about elbow-length). It tends to be a bit messy or otherwise flyaway, and is rather cowlicky at his temples now that his bangs have grown out long enough, and despite the vanity that makes him keep it that long, one would get the feeling looking at it that he doesn't put as much effort into taking care of it as he should. It is soft to the touch. Sometimes he pulls it into a horsetail, but never a ponytail, as he abandoned the latter hairstyle for good when he assumed his true name.

9. What color are his eyes?
Gold. Kiyudzuki tends to have them pure yellow, but Kousaki colors them with amber and orange tones.

10. Does the character have any other noteworthy features?
There are thin black marks under his eyes, and he usually has some half-healed battle scars somewhere or other. There are a lot of very old but still somewhat visible scars he's had since childhood, marks of his father's abuse, under his clothes--they're not too prominent except on humid days, when they get a little puffy.

11. What are his chief tension centers?
The hawkish expression he usually wears ought to say enough about this, but when very tense, you can expect to see it in his shoulders and fists.

12. What is the character's wardrobe like? Casual, dressy, utilitarian? Bright colors, pastels, neutrals? Is it varied, or does he have six of the same suit?
ARMOR ARMOR ARMOR, but he also has plain black sleeveless shirts/turtlenecks and several pairs of khaki or denim pants. There's quite a bit of ~court clothing~ and such, but he never wears that unless he has to, so that doesn't count. Gulcasa likes red, black, and pale gold, so those colors make their way into a lot of his clothing and armor.

13. Do his clothes fit well? Does he seem comfortable in them?
He doesn't pay his clothes much mind, and aside from armor, selects them mainly for comfort and ease of movement; now that he's the Emperor, his clothes are always tailored.

14. Does he dress the same on the job as he does in his free time? If not, what are the differences?
His court forces him into fancy things for the sake of impressing people, but Gulcasa grew up wearing armor or very plain things due to having lived in the slums; that's still what he's most comfortable with.

15. You knew it was coming: Boxers, briefs or commando?
Ask Nessiah. c:

Speech
1. What does this character's voice sound like? High-pitched, deep, hoarse?
His voice is fairly deep, and tends to be "intense"-sounding. (voice clips will go here when i am not too lazy to .zip them) He's been played by both Miura Hiroaki and Toriumi Kosuke.

2. How does he normally speak? Loud, soft, fast, evenly? Does he talk easily, or does he hesitate?
Ordinarily, Gulcasa speaks confidently and with no hesitance whatsoever. If he's having trouble choosing his words, it usually means he's having some form of difficulty with the topic.

3. Does the character have a distinct accent or dialect? Any individual quirks of pronunciation? Any, like, you know, verbal tics?
Gulcasa's particular dialect is masculine, informal, somewhat haughty, and slightly archaic. For instance, when using negative forms of verbs, he tends to end them with -n rather than -nai; ex. "dekinai → dekin", "sasenai → sasen".

4. What language/s does he speak, and with how much fluency?
Common (Japanese/English based on the version of the game); he's reasonably fluent, but cannot speak politely for the life of him.

5. Does he switch languages or dialects in certain situations?
When really irritated, he tends to slip into punk-speak; those -nai endings turn into -nee very quickly once he's pissed off.

6. Is he a good impromptu speaker, or does he have to think about his words?
If given five minutes, he'll be able to make a good speech. He's learned how to do that from people with great skill.

7. Is he eloquent or inarticulate? Under what circumstances might this change?
He's a little further on the eloquent side than inarticulate; at least as far as can be expected out of a kid from the slums. He never really learned keigo formally, though, so he has a complete inability to string sentences together in it, and tends to mix up tenses and hopelessly tangle himself up in words.

Mental and Emotional
1. How intelligent is this character? Is he book-smart or street-smart?
Gulcasa has very good sense in his capacities as a leader and a general. Other than that he can be kind of stupid in places. This is definitely all street smarts.

2. Does he think on his feet, or does he need time to deliberate?
He's more prone to snap decisions than deliberating, unless the issue is extremely important.

3. Describe the character's thought process. Is he more logical, or more intuitive? Idealistic or practical?
He uses his intuition more than his logic; while he would still be seen as idealistic in the terms of the world, he is more practical than he used to be.

4. What kind of education has the character had?
Before he was crowned and formally taught from age 17 up, he didn't have much in the way of an education, and learned the things that he needed to live. It's implied that before he was made Emperor, he was barely literate.

5. What are his areas of expertise? What, if anything, is he interested in learning more about?
FIGHTING FIGHTING FIGHTING TACTICS STRATEGY ARTS OF WAR PUNCHING PEOPLE IN THE FACE GOVERNING and gathering allies. He's somewhat interested in the history of his bloodline, but his focus is more on protecting his country than anything else right now.

6. Is he an introvert or an extrovert?
Extrovert.

7. Describe the character's temperament. Is he even-tempered or does he have mood swings? Cheerful or melancholy? Laid-back or driven?
Gulcasa is hot-tempered and stubborn, but he tends to be kindhearted and patient around his allies. He's very driven all the time, mostly because of the burden of having to take care of everyone and everything.

8. How does he respond to new people or situations? Is he suspicious, relaxed, timid, enthusiastic?
Gulcasa tends to trust his allies and comrades a bit too easily, even when they've only just joined him--despite having been betrayed by people important to him before. He usually rolls with things as best he can, and tries not to show any stress that unexpected problems might put him under.

9. Is he more likely to act, or to react?
Act.

10. Which is his default: fight or flight?
...Definitely fight.

11. Describe the character's sense of humor. Does he appreciate jokes? Puns? Gallows humor? Bathroom humor? Pranks?
As Garlot, he tended to joke around with his comrades a lot, but since changing his name he's become more stern and serious.

12. Does the character have any diagnosable mental disorders? If yes, how does he deal with them?
Gulcasa is still suffering from PTSD due to the events of the Bronquian revolution (and his condition gets worse as Yggdra Union progresses). He doesn't "deal with it" so much as he tries to shove the issues as far away as he can so that he can still function. He also has a strange but mild form of co-dependency; he has a very difficult time functioning if he doesn't have at least a few of his allies as his support base.

13. What moments in this character's life have defined him as a person?
His mother's abandonment, his father's abuse, meeting Siskier, entering Gram Blaze, Siskier's death, Jenon and Medoute's betrayal. He's been heavily shaped by the events of his life, many of which have been traumatic.

14. What does he fear?
The thought of losing the people he loves terrifies him. He's been through that too many times. His other major fear is that he might fail in his fight to protect the people and his loved ones.

15. What are his hopes or aspirations?
He still wants to create a peaceful world free of class discrimination, just like Siskier always wanted. Beyond that, he's still not sure; it's become something of an obsession.

16. What is something he doesn't want anyone to find out about him?
He probably wouldn't enjoy people bandying about the whole "matricide" thing, but his loved ones know everything there is to know about him and accept him as he is, so that's the most important thing to him. More properly, he would not want his enemies to discover just how afraid he is of losing people--it would be dangerous for his loved ones, and crippling to himself if they were ever killed.

Relationships
1. Describe this character's relationship with his parents.
...Ahahaha. Gulcasa's mother, Baretreenu, abandoned him when he was a toddler; since that time, his father abused him brutally until the time of his (his dad's) death. When he and Baretreenu were reunited, Baretreenu revealed that she knew about the abuse, but continued with her research anyway; after that, she demanded that they duel to the death over his right to have his blood unsealed. I believe it is safe to say that his relationship with them was very bad.

2. Does the character have any siblings? What is/was their relationship like?
Emilia is his younger half-sister. She's six years younger than him and adores him; even before they discovered they were blood-related, he always felt like she was a baby sister he couldn't leave on her own, and now that they know the truth, he positively spoils her. They're quite close.

3. Are there other blood relatives to whom he is close? Are there ones he can't stand?
Gulcasa doesn't have any other living family members.

4. Are there other, unrelated people whom he considers part of his family? What are his relationships with them?
Everyone who was in Gram Blaze with him are his bros. They're as good as family, and he gets along with all of them very well (except Jenon and Medoute, who drank the paranoia kool-aid and ditched him--not that he didn't try to reconcile with them instead).

5. Who is/was the character's best friend? How did they meet?
Siskier was his best friend; they met when they were both young kids, and were together a lot until the time of her death.

6. Does he have other close friends?
Everybody who was in Gram Blaze. Jenon was his first close male friend.

7. Does he make friends easily, or does he have trouble getting along with people?
Gulcasa has something of a magnetic personality, and attracts friends and allies easily. Nowadays first impressions count for a lot, though.

8. Which does he consider more important: family or friends?
His friends are his family; problem solved.

9. Is the character single, married, divorced, widowed? Has he been married more than once?
He's not married, but he is currently in a relationship with Nessiah. Blaze Union implies that they became very close after Gulcasa's blood was unsealed, and so they have been together for three years.

10. Is he currently in a romantic relationship with someone other than a spouse?
Nessiah is not his spouse, but may as well be. They're only seeing each other.

11. Who was his first crush? Who is his latest?
It's implied that he was developing a nascent crush on Siskier at the time of her death and no there is nothing Oedipal about that at all; he's with Nessiah right now. Emilia mentions that he's "taken a liking to" Yggdra, however that should be interpreted.

12. What does he look for in a romantic partner?
They should be there for him, above all else. Thus far Gulcasa hasn't gone out hunting for a boyfriend/girlfriend, so he hasn't been able to classify the exact traits he finds desirable or un.

13. Does the character have children? Grandchildren? If yes, how does he relate to them? If no, does he want any?
Gulcasa doesn't have any kids; if he were to have any with Nessiah, they would need to be adopted for obvious reasons. He hasn't thought about that yet, though.

14. Does he have any rivals or enemies?
haythar royal army

15. What is the character's sexual orientation? Where does he fall on the Kinsey scale?
Gulcasa is about a solid 3 on the scale. He's not very sexually self-aware and has trouble recognizing others' attraction, needing it put in solid terms before he'll recognize it; this is an aftereffect of the abuse, as he does not expect to be loved.

16. How does he feel about sex? How important is it to him?
The pleasure and physical closeness are one of the best ways to express affection, in his opinion, but it's not the end of the world if he can't get some every night. He's a twenty-year-old guy, so he has a healthy amount of sex drive in spite of his problems recognizing others' unstated feelings for him.

17. What are his turn-ons? Turn-offs? Weird bedroom habits?
He does not like any signs of pain or fear in his partner, as he mentally ties that in with taking advantage of the weak; that's a big turn-off for him. Mostly because Nessiah is his partner (and Nessiah is much smaller and frailer than him, not to mention skittish), he tends to be very gentle and careful during sex. Despite this, he prefers rough and even violent lovemaking to tender, and likes being able to exert his (considerable) full strength in bed. When faced with a physically frail partner, he's able to accept just being handled roughly (if not quite at strict dom/sub levels). His ears are very sensitive.

Beliefs
1. Do you know your character's astrological (zodiac of choice) sign? How well does he fit type?
Gulcasa was born in the year 1470 MD, which should make him a Year of the Tiger unless my math is seriously bad (which is possible--note that this is if MD and AD line up). We don't have a canon birthdate for him, but for RP purposes I usually place his birthdate as November 21 (the English release date of Yggdra Union GBA), making him a Scorpio. Both types fit him like a glove.

2. Is this character religious, spiritual, both, or neither? How important are these elements in his life?
Contrary to what most people might expect, he actually is rather pious, but he doesn't talk about his personal beliefs very often.

3. Does this character have a personal code of morals or ethics? If so, how did that begin? What would it take to compromise it?
Gulcasa feels very strongly that he must continue to get stronger, and that those with power must use it to shelter the weak. Misusing power or taking advantage of the weak under one's care are unforgivable to him; he'd rather die than do so. These things came from his own early life.

4. How does he regard beliefs that differ from his? Is he tolerant, intolerant, curious, indifferent?
He's pretty much indifferent to other people's beliefs.

5. What prejudices does he hold? Are they irrational or does he have a good reason for them?
Gulcasa still has some lingering prejudice against the born nobility and thieves, since they tended to prey on others in Bronquia. He has never experienced life in a country with a just sovereign (other than now, as he is a just sovereign), so he doesn't know that it's possible for royalty that hasn't suffered to care about its citizenry.

Daily Life
1. What is the character's financial situation? Is he rich, poor, comfortable, in debt?
As the Emperor, Gulcasa is quite well-off, but he tends to not care about his money except what he can use it for. He doesn't have much in the way of material needs.

2. What is his social status? Has this changed over time, and if so, how has the change affected him?
He was born a peasant, but became Emperor via coup d'etat. His personality hasn't gone through any changes due to his social status climbing, though.

3. Where does he live? House, apartment, trailer? Is his home his castle or just a place to crash? What condition is it in? Does he share it with others?
Appropriately enough, his home is a castle. Still, as far as places go, he's a bit more attached to Tiera than he is to Flarewerk, and he feels more at home with his friends than he does without them.

4. Besides the basic necessities, what does he spend his money on?
Spoiling Emilia, spoiling the horses and dragons, feeding himself and his loved ones. He uses the country's treasury to help the people.

5. What does he do for a living? Is he good at it? Does he enjoy it, or would he rather be doing something else?
He's the Emperor, and he's very goddamn good at it. It's not quite a matter of enjoying the job or not--it's something that he must do, and something that he is now.

6. What are his interests or hobbies? How does he spend his free time?
w-what free time. Gulcasa likes cooking, eating, playfighting, sex, and generally socializing with the people he cares about.

7. What are his eating habits? Does he skip meals, eat out, drink alcohol, avoid certain foods?
Gulcasa eats a lot, and as he has an iron stomach, he can eat just about anything. He hates milk and cheese, though, and will not touch them despite being willing to eat rotten food and dragon steak.
